The End of 2019

It’s the end of 2019. I’m glad it’s over, except that 2020 is coming next. I’ve gotten some more writing done this year than in previous years. That’s a good thing. But really I’m trying to take things a day at a time. Maybe if I repeat it enough, it will become the norm.

Generally I like to take a look ahead when an old year draws to its end. In this case, I don’t think I want to do so. The next year has people on edge. I don’t look forward to that.

Instead, I want to focus on the things that help me and others cope. I can’t fix everything that’s broken in this world. The only things I can fix are within arm’s reach. So that’s what I’m going to do. Whatever things happen outside my control rightfully belong outside my worry.

I hope everyone reading this will find some semblance of quiet enjoyment in the coming year. For every awkward family dinner, heated exchange, and ugly encounter, there is something which is a joy to experience. Too often people can focus on the former and miss the latter. Joy is more pleasant than sorrow. It’s not always a choice to experience one over the other, but when I’m able to do so, I’ll always choose joy.

Kindest regards to all who has shared 2019 with me. If it went well, I am happy for you. If it did not go well, join me in welcoming the new year into being.
