My mind’s bouncing around again. There’s still a lot going on in the world right now. Pick a reason to get excited or angry. Everyone’s spoiled for choice.
Yesterday I mowed lawn. Today I intend to get out into the garden if weather permits. My peppers and tomatoes need relief from the weeds. The blackberries are finally ripening en masse. I will have to pick them wearing some protective gear.
My dad’s old army jacket should work okay. It won’t close in the front, but it’s my arms that need the most protection. Blackberry thorns are the sharpest I’ve ever had to deal with. They claw and grab and rip and tear.
But the berries are really good.
If I can get some cream cheese, I might be able to make another cheesecake. The blackberries will make a sauce, and they will go drizzled over the top of the cake. It will be my first cheesecake with homegrown blackberries.
While I’m at it, I’d also like to pick up some seasoning for a tomato sauce. Some of my tomatoes are coming in. Since my folks are doing keto now, they’re finally entertaining the idea of new food. This includes kelp noodles. My hope is that I can make something which will liven them up.
One interesting side effect of this change in menu is that I’m seeing more vegan options to work with in the house. Flax seed replaces eggs. Some vegetables are replacing meats. I’m optimistic that I’ll get to eat better.
Yum, blackberries! I hope you are able to avoid the thorns. Let us know how the kelp noodles are.
